and the matchups vs most other decks are really good.

You mean decks like Suicide Black? I won against a team america deck with my suicide black deck 2 to 0, so yeah, not all decks are all that bad against Team America.

Ichorid, MBC/MBA, Goblins, Painter (yes a combo deck), and lots of aggro.

Anyway back on getting this thread back on track.

I was testing the goyf sligh matchup with team america against a compotent player earlier tonight. I also played a total of 4 games. Also keep in mind the purpose of this post is for reference only so keep the opposing opinions aside. ;)

First game he kept a hand of all instants, figure of destiny and a fetchland. I was able to sinkhole that one land in the process and got in a few swings with goyf while holding a couple of forces as well as dazes. He wasn't able to recover from a resolved sinkhole on his taiga considering in the first 3 turns he only made one land drop. In this case destroying one of his lands with sinkhole was a correct play. I was able to ride to victory with a few swings from tarmogoyf.

Second game I kept like 3 lands, ponder, goyf, thoughseize, and a force. I played a polluted delta cracked it right there for an underground sea and thoughtseized ended up getting his fireblast. I was able to quickly dispose of his figure of destiny with snuff out. I drawed a goyf and a tombstalker with brainstorm at the end of his turn. I played a goyf and then played a tombstalker on the following turn while keeping a hand of forces and blue elemental blasts. Once again I was able to ride to victory with goyfs and stalkers.

Third game was somewhat the same as the second game. He played an Grim Lavamancer which was soon met by a blue blast. He then played a goyf and a mogg fanatic and it looked like he had the advantage right there. Until I brainstormed at the end of his turn I was able to play a goyf the very next turn. A couple of turns later I stalled with goyf and played a tombstalker. I was able to swing every turn with tombstalker to knock him down a quarter of his life everytime while stalling with my own goyf. He ended up getting me down to 2 with a chain lightning but I was once again able to pull away with a win via tombstalkers/goyfs.

Fourth Game kept on going back and forth for a little while. I again kept a highly disruptive hand of dazes, blue blasts, and force of wills. Drawing into goyfs were a common necassity in this match. I was able to get a clock going once again with goyfs. He ended up playing a total of 3 goyfs in this game as well but I easily took care of them with either Diabolic edict and/or snuff out.

This matchup I think is generally favorable for Team America however if the goyf sligh player draws into muliple copies of price of progress the matchup can be exponentially difficult.

The Team America list I was using was pretty much the same list that was played at the source anniversary tournament.

Here is the sideboarding configuration I used against Goyf Sligh for reference:

-3 Stifle
-4 Sinkhole
+4 Blue elemental blast
+3 Diabolic Edict

Team america from testing it really isn't so amazing to me. Having goyf or stalker can be nice but outside of disrupting your opponent every turn your not going to win. You miss one round and minus them not drawing a land or being able to cast one spell you pretty much loose the control matchup. Now I played against aggro loam and the fact that I had tombstalker at all was the reason I won, but I have to tell you I wasn't overly impressed with anything in this deck. I'd rather play canadian thrash and find a way to splash black in there instead of say red. Theres simply no reason to play this deck other then to call it team america to me. But who knows. Certainly not me. :)

Yeah I think Team america is an overrated deck and I stated before it has a horrible manabase and even though it concentrates on land destruction but it also fails to address the same issues of being land hated. Besides if my playtesting partner had drawn into at least 1 or 2 price of progress with goyf sligh I would've easily lost but that's mws for you. Goyf Sligh can beat Team america pretty bad and with large consistency as well since it doesn't run counterbalance and land destruction doesn't work as well against a deck with an average spell curve of 1 or 2 that can instantly win on the 3rd or 4th turn.
